Pamella Sittoni

Pamella Makotsi Sittoni is a Kenyan journalist with more than 20 years’ experience in the media in East Africa.

Sittoni has recently been promoted to Group Managing Editor at Nation Media Group, and has previously served as executive editor partnerships of the Daily Nation, in the Nation Media Group (NMG). Throughout the years, she has held several leadership positions including Executive and Managing Editor at Daily Nation, and also managing editor of NMG’s regional newspaper, The East African, from 2012 to 2018, and as managing editor of The Standard, from 2005 to 2006. From 2006 to 2012, she worked as a communications specialist at UNICEF Kenya, where she was charged with advocacy for children and women. Sittoni began her career at the NMG as a reporter in 1993 and rose to chief sub-editor. In 2003, she moved to the Standard Group as deputy managing editor. In 2017, Sittoni was named by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) the laureate of the Women in News Editorial Leadership Award for Sub-Saharan Africa. She is a fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, through the Africa Leadership Initiative. She holds a bachelor’s in literature and anthropology and a post-graduate diploma in communication from the University of Nairobi. In addition, she has a master’s in communication from the University of Leicester.
