News Integrity Initiative announces its aims and roadmap

The News Integrity Initiative (NII), which was originally announced in April, announced that through “grants, applied research, events, and other activities” it will aim to help build bridges between journalists and the communities they serve.

The initiative’s main goals are “building trust in journalism, combating disinformation, and nurturing constructive, inclusive and respectful public conversations,” said its managing director Molly de Aguiar in a blog post discussing the roadmap.

The NII will specifically support diversity in newsrooms and in the media ecosystem more broadly, and will support projects that aim to diminish the impact of disinformation.

“We want people to feel powerful — visible, valued, and engaged in their communities because they are armed with relevant and reliable news and information,” de Aguiar said to Nieman Lab.

Full information about the types of projects the initiative will fund is available on its website.
