Blendle launching subscription option in the Netherlands

Blendle has long been called the “iTunes for news”, but with the new service the company seems to have taken a page out of Spotify’s book. The start-up is now introducing a new product, a €9.99 monthly subscription for 20 selected articles per day, the Financial Times reported (paywall). 

The selection of articles will be partly automated, partly handled by Blendle Staff. The company’s co-founder Alexander Klöpping called the move a “test in our backyard”, and said further experiments will follow, such a full read-all-you-can model.

Blendle, which is backed by Axel Springer and the New York Times, expanded to the US market last year. The company has over 1 million registered users globally, about 150,000 of whom paying.
