Protecmedia promotes its '360 Digital Strategy'

“We have three different areas running at the moment in the company right now: advertising (ad management & production), editorial (cross media publishing & DAM) and audience (circulation & subscription management, audience segmentation) – and one platform to rule them all,” he adds. “We are talking about one, unique, single platform and three different areas under this big umbrella with solutions that talk to each other providing synergies for publishers. That’s one of the reasons we chose '360 Digital Strategy' as our motto for this World Publishing Expo.”

That platform is Milenium Cross Media, Protecmedia's software solution, which the company describes as being composed of modules that work in both an integrated and independent manner.

“We adapt to a publisher's needs and offer scalable solutions in multiple languages,” Parra says. “We also put a lot of focus on new features on digital, more browser-based solutions and different tools for online & mobile ad booking and management. We work closely with our customers and release new features in a very short time based on the needs they have. In this new digital ecosystem, we think that our solutions need to constantly evolve to keep up with the latest digital advances.”

Some in the industry might view Protecmedia as primarily a Spanish company. While the firm's headquarters and origins are in Madrid, their scope and customer base is global. “Since our founding in 1979, we have focused solely on the media industry, and as technological partner, we are proud to continue helping media companies to adapt their business to the challenges of the new digital era.

“Besides our headquarters in Madrid, we have other offices in Europe: Paris, Munich and Lisbon, and we work closely with local partners in Asia, the Middle East, India, Brazil and Canada as well. We also have offices in Santiago de Chile and in Mexico, so we are more or less across the world,” Parra says.

As far as customers go, Protecmedia has 500 clients in 25 countries, and Parra says is “quite strong in Spain, Latin America and Portugal as well and in France about 50 percent of their regional newspapers are working with our solutions.”

While Protecmedia has some regional German customers and a significant presence in Poland, they have the objective of strengthening Protecmedia's presence in Central and Eastern Europe through its office in Munich, Parra told us in Hamburg.

“We are happy of having found competent local partners in other parts of the world to intensify our activities there. As a result, we have already entered the Asian market with a Malaysian market leader NSTP,” Parra says.

Recent installations in Germany, Argentina and Canada

One of Protecmedia's most recent installations is in Germany at the Echo Medien publishing company, which has updated its editorial system with Milenium.

Implemented in stages earlier this year, a total of 100 journalists now work with the same solution as the rest of their colleagues in the VRM group (Verlagsgruppe Rhein Main, which purchased Echo Medien at the start of 2015), to coordinate their agendas and editorial resources with the same interface.

Another recent installation for the company is at Argentina's Editorial Río Negro, which selected Protecmedia's ITER Web CMS solution to relaunch its website, rionegro.com.ar, as part of its aim to strengthening its position in the large Patagonia region.

Yet another installation is live at Hebdos Québec, the Canadian weeklies association in Québec. There, Protecmedia's technology is part of a central platform for the association's 33 member publications “to optimise their editorial and advertising resources, in particular for its new digital projects,” according to the company.
