He started with facts related to the newspaper industry, shedding light on how Asia Pacific contributes 36 percent of revenue generation, for the newspaper industry with India, Japan and China being major contributors. What is interesting here is that, for the first time, revenue from circulation is higher than revenues from advertising.

“Readership has increased over years," Jacob says, "however, where the concern lies is in generating revenue." Mobile has emerged as an important platform with e-commerce and mobile applications growing rapidly.

He said news executives need to understand disruption theory and the means to cope up with it. In addition, editors need to think about how to make the best use of different platforms to optimise reader engagement.
