Over 1500 journalists gathered in the regional Italian city of Perugia last week to celebrate – yes, celebrate – journalism in industry times most frequently cast as gloomy.

I was one of 530 speakers from approximately 30 countries at the eighth International Journalism Festival, where I talked about the intersection of journalism and social media on a panel with journalists from the New York TimesWall Street Journal and Deutsche Welle.

With my World Editors Forum colleague Federica Cherubini who was also in Perugia, I’ve curated a Storify archive of quotes posted to Twitter during the event, highlighting the four key themes of the festival: The Snowden Effect; audience engagement; verififcation; online ethics; emerging business models.

You can view the video of the panel on which Julie Posetti spoke at #IJF14 below. It also features The Wall Street Journal’s Sarah Marshall and The New York Times‘ Aron Pilhofer. All three will speak at the World Editors Forum in Torino in June.
